Add parents, spouses, siblings and children
How relationships are recorded, and what happens when you only know part of a person's details.
Every person is added in relation to someone already in the tree. Select a person, choose Add relative, then say how the new person is related.
- Select a person on the canvas. Their actions appear on the card.
- Choose Add relative, then one of Child, Parent, Spouse, Sibling, or No relationship.
- Enter a first and last name. Everything else is optional.
Details you do not know yet
Gender and birth date are both optional and are left unrecorded unless you set them. This is deliberate: for older generations they are often genuinely unknown, and a record that guesses is worse than one that is honest about the gap. You can fill them in later without losing anything.
