Import or export a tree with GEDCOM
GEDCOM is the format most genealogy software reads. You can bring a tree in, and take yours out at any time.
Taking your tree out
Open a tree and choose Download. You get a GEDCOM 5.5.1 file containing every person, their dates and places, and the relationships between them. It opens in most genealogy software.
Bringing a tree in
Importing a GEDCOM file creates a new tree. It never merges into an existing one, so an import cannot damage work you already have.
Approximate dates such as ABT 1890 are kept exactly as written rather than converted into a specific date. A guess recorded as a fact is very hard to spot later.
